LA 3-4 WEEK OF December 1ST- MONDAY: Review of literary terms. Quiz will be on Thursday. Apply skills in identifying tone in small reading passages. Due end of class. TUESDAY: Review and apply skills for comprehending informational text in given passages. Special emphasis on passages with illustrations and charts. WEDNESDAY: Half-day. Introduction to poetry unit and notes on rhythm and meter. Hand out on paraphrasing. THURSDAY: Take literary terms quiz. Scan the metrical poem of Shakespeare, "Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day?" on pg. 561. Answer in complete sentences, #1-8 on page 562. Due by end of class. FRIDAY: Take vocabulary lesson #8 quiz. With partner, paraphrase the ballad, "Bonny Barbara Allan," on page 565. Due by end of class.
LA 5-6 WEEK OF DECEMBER 1st- MONDAY: Trade student created quizzes on Dickinson and take quiz. Vocabulary squares for lesson 9 are due on Friday. Vocabulary quiz that is normally on Friday for lesson 8 will be taken tomorrow due to the holiday. Take notes on poetry terms and know these for quiz on Thursday. Discuss analyzing poetry using TP-CASTT. Hand outs on paraphrasing and TP-CASTT. TUESDAY: Vocabulary Quiz # 8. Apply TP-CASTT when analyzing "Because I could not stop for Death," on pg. 391. Answer in complete sentences #1-6 on pg. 395. Due by end of class. WEDNESDAY: Half-day. Apply TP-CASTT to "Some keep the Sabbath going to Church" on pg. 381. Answer in complete sentences #2, 3, 4 & 6. Due by end of class. THURSDAY: Quiz on poetry terms. Read and summarize in 10 sentences, key facts on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Identify meter, repetition, personification and alliteration in "The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls," on pg. 177. Apply TP-CASTT to "The Cross of Snow," pg. 178. Due end of class. FRIDAY: Vocabulary Squares are due for lesson 9. Illustrate one of the poems studied by Dickinson or Longfellow, or create your own poem with background design. These will be displayed in class and will be graded on demonstrated knowledge of theme, creativity, and neatness.
